The Phases of Urban Revival - Urban Phoenix

This is a great article from Urban Phoenix about urban revival and the growing pains cities experience amidst its great strides forward.

Rochester is in the "adolescent" development phase right now. Will we get it right? We need city council members who understand that we need balance between public and private interests. Far too often the voice of the people is not valued as equal to the forces seeking to develop. I am ready to take these issues head-on as a member of the Rochester City Council.

Just like a teenager starts choosing friends over family, cities start identifying with investment capital and large scale development projects, believing it’s in their best interest...This is where things can either go very right or very wrong... Rather, city government, organizations and residents need to listen to each other, working together to find an acceptable balance between the new residents and businesses that began the resurgence, and the new “friends” of the urban movement (i.e. developers and investors).
